Birmingham Shopping Covers the Spectrum
Birmingham, England’s second-largest city with a million people, has long been a shopping draw. There’s posh shopping at Debenhams, Selfridges and the only Harvey Nichols outside London, but it’s more fun and affordable to mix it up at the little stalls hugging the Bull Ring in the city center. Named for medieval butcheries, the Bull Ring now has hundreds of market stalls clustered inside and out. There’s also a Farmers Market the first and third Wednesday of each month, and a Sunday morning car boot sale. It’s easy to pick up a new outfit for a few quid, then pop inside to the famous fish stalls for a stand-up shrimp salad for less than $4/£2.50.
