London Opens Up with a Handy Oyster Card

icon-transportationOne of the zippiest ways to get around London, on buses, tubes, trams and most overground trains, is the handy Oyster Card–it automatically calculates the cheapest fare for a day’s travel. The lowest price is $21, but it also comes in £20, £30, £40 and £50 values. Credit is deducted every time you use public transport; for instance, a single tube journey in central London is about $6.54 with cash, but only about $2.45 with an Oyster card. Once you reach the price of a day travel card, no more credit is deducted from your card for the rest of the day, no matter how many journeys you make. You can top up the credit at more than 3,000 outlets all over London, including all tube stations, and it never expires.
